The bike had been... well, it had been awesome, the sidecar making it easy for two to travel quickly, and Zack was getting some impressive mileage on it. Cloud was still asleep, had been asleep since they'd left Nibelheim with no sign of waking, and while they'd done a decent job so far of avoiding notice, life on the run with only a bike, some materia, a sword, and the dead-weight comatose form of an unconscious friend could stand to be at least a little more comfortable. They hadn't slept in a bed since the ShinRa Manor, because what bed could they trust?

The answer had hit Zack like a sack of hammers, too easy and too good to be true. So they were on the highway headed for Gongaga.

The sight of something perched on a road sign overhead made him slam on the brake, and as he stepped onto the road and drew his sword, two winged Genesis copies jumped down to face him.

He could have taken them, too, if it wasn't for the real thing kicking him to the ground from behind. )

[OOC: NFI because distance, and huge chunks plundered from Crisis Core. Gettin' there. Gettin' there.]

It was a beautiful day, somewhere.

It was never really a beautiful day. )

[OOC: Establishy, naturally. This guy is gonna be hard to contact for a while, I'm afraid. BUT IT'S GOOD TO HAVE HIM BACK. Even if it's just to prove that I'm a horrible person.]
puppy_fair: (Unimpressed okay.)
It had been a bit of a roundabout trip out of Junon for Zack and Ino, yes. They'd managed to thumb a drive as far as Fort Condor, and the walk to the cave from there hadn't been terrible. Actually, Zack had been pleasantly surprised to see that at least that much hadn't changed. Caves were going to be caves no matter what year he was wandering around in.

Really, it was a shame that he couldn't say the same for apparently every human settlement ever.

Past the cave, it was the swamp, which they managed to slog through with surprisingly little difficulty.

Zack dusted his hands off on his shirt as they continued their way through the bog, leaving a giant, cobra-like carcass behind them.

"Man," he mumbled, looking at the piddly 400 Gil that he'd picked off the corpse, "they really just don't make monsters the same way that they used to."

[For That Girl and phone calls!]

Okay. So, Mideel had been a bust. But once Zack had been given clearance to leave the clinic that they'd found there, he and Ino had hunted down transit to get them the hell out of there. It didn't even matter where, at this point. Civilization. Any continent would do, so long as it wasn't Wutai, and wasn't drowned in mako. Fortunately, for some extra Gil, it wasn't difficult to find a ship captain who wasn't adverse to letting two stowaways hang out in the cargo hold, just so long as Zack was certain not to make eye contact with any of his crew.

And that was how they wound up on the coastline in the Gongaga region, casually beating up the occasional Beachplug before turning to head to the broad expanse of trees not far to the north, inside which was the small town that Zack had grown up in.

Just a quick stop, he'd promised. Mostly because he was curious to see how far Gongaga had come along, over the years.

This was shaping up to be one hell of a vacation.

[For the giiiiirl.]

Zack had managed to get all of three steps out of Angeal's mom's house when he heard a loud crashing sound nearby. More Genesis copies, not far from the gate and roadway leading out of the small gathering of houses.

More Quick Work. )

[Second verse, same as the first. Ganked from Crisis Core, NFB and NFI for distance, OOC welcome, and ow. That gave my heart a hurty.]

Before they left, Zack and Tseng had a conversation that started off in a manner that Zack would consider rocky (Be alert or you'll fail? Thanks, Tseng!), but it ended on an okay enough note. Sure, Zack had learned during the talk that originally, this had been Sephiroth's mission, but the SOLDIER 1st was refusing to go. But when Zack had insisted that they spoiled Sephiroth too much, Tseng had nearly laughed!

And so he was added to Zack's list of "bestest friends forever." It was a Zack thing, and really shouldn't have come as a surprise to anybody.

Now they had arrived at their destination... )

[Mmm, delicious canon catchup. Ganked in entirety from Crisis Core and adapted for Fandomy-Zacky goodness. NFB and NFI for distance and such, but OOC is welcome, if you wanna. There... will be more on the way, yes. Later today, so as not to be spammy.]

It had started this morning, with a phone call that said in no uncertain terms that Zack was wanted back in Midgar for an assignment. The details were vague, of course, which was understandable. After all, it was impossible to secure a phone line running from one world to the next, and so Zack had been flown out to Midgar this afternoon, and he'd proceeded to spend the rest of the day in the SOLDIER floor common area. Waiting.

Man, what is with Angeal? )

[And once again, I make with the canon Catchy-uppy. Ganked from Crisis Core, of course, and open for phone calls or whatnot while Zack is wandering Midgar like the adorable little slacker that he is, but NFB for distance!]

The flight into Wutai? Completely uneventful. Getting a run-down of the plan from the Director? Equally so. Zack was practically twitching by the time he and Angeal were finally on solid ground again, making their way toward Fort Tamblin. Any minute now, things would start to get interesting. Please. Really.

The Puppy should be careful what he wishes for. )

[NFI, NFB for distance, ganked entirely from Crisis Core, which is now my archnemesis for not believing in inconsequential plot points that I can just skim over without missing out on something huge somewhere down the road. This wasn't supposed to be a small novel, and yet, here it is. OOC is love, and cookies, and pie, and all of that good stuff.]
